Plotinus (c. 204–270) is one of the most outstanding thinkers, the only heir of the great Plato, this “god of philosophers.” The creator of his own original system of philosophy, life and worldview, Plotinus is widely known to the Russian thinking reader, but is also practically unknown to him. This book is intended to rediscover the very topic of Plotinus.
Translation from ancient Greek and afterword by T.G. Sidasha.
The Fourth Ennead of Plotinus is the first collection of psychological treatises in importance and volume after Aristotle, which has come down from antiquity to the present day. With exceptional thoroughness for the ancients, the philosopher examines here issues related to both the Soul-Hypostasis and the hierarchy of intracosmic souls. This Ennead also poses and resolves many questions now considered mainly by empirical psychology. Without knowledge of these texts, today it is impossible to form an understanding not only of the psychology of the Neoplatonic school, but also of European rational psychology as such.
It is being translated into Russian for the first time. The publication is equipped with a detailed analytical article and comments.
