Published for the first time in Russian, surviving fragments from Iamblichus of Chalcis's comments on Plato's dialogues force the modern reader to take a fresh look at the work of the founder of the Academy. Iamblichus combines the subtlety of theoretical discourse with tracing the most unexpected, primarily Eastern, cultural influences and analogies. It was Iamblichus's comments that became the basis for the formation of mature Neoplatonism; their influence can be traced in Byzantine theological literature up to M. Psellus. The combination of theological, metaphysical, linguistic issues with theosophical interest makes the published texts one of the brightest pages in the history of Platonism. Ancient Mesopotamian and Mithraic images were used in the design of the text of the book. CONTENTS: Svetlov R.V. Iamblichus of Chalcis. Metaphysics.
