For most people, their own mind is the standard; the rest are either smart (that is, as smart as myself) or stupid (stupider than me). Probably, real intelligence begins from that starting point when a person is ready to admit that he is not the smartest in this world. Popular guides such as “Hone your intellect”, “How to raise a child to be a genius”, etc. are in great demand all over the world, not to mention countless collections of tests that supposedly allow you to assess your level of intelligence. Of course, many people want to know that their abilities are very high (they are reluctant to believe in a low score). At the same time, we hardly ask ourselves the questions: what is hidden behind the test scores, what the notorious IQ actually measures, and in general, what is the human mind? This is what this book is written about. After reading it, you are unlikely to become much smarter, but you will learn a lot of interesting things about the history of intelligence research, about psychological testing and about the factors that ultimately determine the mental abilities of each of us.
