Eleven-year-old Jake's life is turned upside down: his dad was wounded in Afghanistan, and his mom leaves to look after him. This means Jake will spend the summer on tiny Dewees Island with his grandmother. The island turns out to be a natural reserve, far from civilization: there are no cars, paved roads, restaurants or even shops. What’s even worse is that grandma doesn’t like television or the Internet. On the island, Jake is left without a phone, video games, or friends. It seems that this will be the worst summer of his life!.. However, on the island he meets other children - Mason and Lowy. The three of them go in search of adventure and along the way share family secrets with each other.
