Composer Alesandro Sussken lives in the island state of Glond, which is waging an endless war on another island with a faceless enemy whose soldiers the locals have never seen. Alesandro's older brother was drafted into the army, from where he never returned, mysteriously disappearing along with his unit. Citizens of Glond are prohibited from all contact with other countries, but sometimes the musician sees ghostly mirages of other islands on the horizon, and these visions give him inspiration and strength to create. One day everything changes and the composer is sent on a concert tour abroad. He does not know why this happened and what he did to deserve such a privilege, but this trip will change his ideas about himself, about his own country, about music and about the very nature of time and space, because he will witness a strange physical phenomenon called gradual.
