The story “Winter Day of the Beginning of a New Life” is about one day in the life of a Moscow student - a dreamer and philosopher. Particularly disturbing are the terrible rats that follow the hero everywhere... at least he is sure of this. An attempt to start a new life turns into a meeting with a charming girl, who, however, soon turns out to be a representative of the first ancient profession. From this moment on, the events finally acquire an adventurous and criminal character, leading to a predictable outcome. The author skillfully masters a whimsical, somewhat pretentious language, creates memorable images and dilutes the narrative with gloomy humor. The story “Memoirs of Military Service” in a different form and on a different - army - material raises the topic of leveling, enslavement of the individual. After the publication of the first stories about the army, the general meeting of the unit where the author served sent a document to the Main Political Directorate of the SA and the Navy, in which Terekhov was characterized as “ignoring the demands of commanders and public necessity.” Critics have a different opinion: “The main advantage of his prose is its deep penetration into the essence of familiar phenomena with external lightness, delicacy of style, reverent attention to any detail."
