Maria Yalovich (1922–1998), the daughter of a Jewish lawyer, managed to survive under National Socialism by hiding from the authorities in Berlin. After liberation in 1945, she remained in the city and became a professor of ancient literature and cultural studies at the University. Humboldt. Her son Herman Simon, founder and long-term leader of the New Synagogue - Centrum Judaicum foundation, begged his mother, shortly before her death, to dictate the story of her salvation on tape. Based on 77 tapes, he and writer Irena Stratenwerth prepared this book. Published in Russian for the first time.
