The events of W. Ensworth's novel “The Struggle for the Throne” unfold around the struggle for the English throne between William III of Orange and James II Stuart. During the so-called "glorious" revolution of 1688, James II was dethroned and fled to France, where he enjoyed the patronage and support of Louis XIV. He, of course, did not accept defeat and repeatedly tried to regain his throne. By the will of fate, the main characters are also involved in this struggle: Beatrice Tildesley and Walter Crosby, who are in love with each other. Many trials befell them before they managed to get married. The novel has it all: conspiracies, betrayals, assassinations, escapes, duels, the treachery of crowned heads, and the loyalty of friends.
