Regency London: July 1812. How to take on the investigation of a murder that no one can claim was committed? The hero of the book by K.S. faces such a difficult task. Harris, an aristocrat, a former officer who became interested in detective work, Sebastian Saint-Cyr after his friend, anatomist and surgeon Paul Gibson clandestinely acquired the body of a certain young man from the notorious London corpse dealers. Alexander Ross, a promising Foreign Office official, has died due to a weak heart, according to official reports. However, Gibson discovers a stiletto wound at the base of the deceased's skull. For help in finding the killer, the doctor can only turn to Sebastian. Ross, whom everyone who knew him speaks of as a pleasant young man, at first looks like an unsuitable candidate for a murder victim. But as Sebastian's investigation takes him from the reception halls of St. James's Palace to the embassies of Russia, the United States and the Ottoman Empire, the Viscount treads the dangerous terrain of diplomatic maneuvering and international intrigue, where the truth is a vague concept and nothing is as it seems. At the same time, Saint-Cyr is overtaken by vicissitudes in his personal life. Gero Jarvis, the daughter of his powerful nemesis, finally agrees to become the Viscount's wife. However, as the wedding day approaches, Sebastian cannot help but notice the growing evidence that not only Lord Jarvis, but also Gero herself knows much more about the events surrounding Ross's death than they want to convince him. Then a second corpse is found - almost decomposed, but with with exactly the same fatal wound. Sebastian needs to rush to expose the ruthless killer who is now threatening the lives of Saint-Cyr's fiancée and their unborn child.
