Thirty-six-year-old Ida is married, has lived in Rome for a long time and works in radio. Ida's mother, who has remained in Messina all these years, wants to sell their old house. She asks her daughter to come so she can decide what things to keep and what to throw away. Finding herself in her hometown, Ida feels with renewed vigor the pain of the loss she suffered many years ago, when one morning her father left home and never returned.
