Peter Arkadyevich Stolypin is one of the most striking and tragic figures in Russian political history. Milyukov, gives an idea not only of the prime minister and reformer himself, but also of the fatal era of the Russian Troubles of 1905–1907 for Russia, when the empire was on the brink of destruction and Stolypin was called upon to save it. The history of Stolypin’s relationship with the first Russian parliament (State Duma) and society - this is the drama of a decisive reformer who gained power in a situation of severe crisis.
