The popular modern Hungarian playwright - the author of the play “Awake and Sing”, the script for the famous film “The Story of My Stupidity” - appears before Soviet readers as a prose writer. The book contains three stories, united by the theme of theater: “Role” - about the fate of an actor in the situation of the Horthy regime in Hungary; “The Story of My Stupidity” is an unassuming at first glance, but deep in its essence, story of the actress about her theatrical career and family life (the film of the same name with the talented Hungarian actress Eva Ruttkai in the title role was shown on Soviet screens) and, finally, “Once upon a time there was such theater" is an autobiographical story about an actor who, through a misunderstanding, ended up in a prisoner of war camp during the capture of Budapest by the Soviet Army and organized an anti-war theater there.
