Playwright Pavel Gelman came up with a funny character for his Facebook - the philosopher Yakov. Jacob is a fringe sage who constantly finds himself in funny and wacky situations. He is wise, but not ideal - he is vain, envious and always looking for where to make money. Yakov is popular among Facebook readers, some admit that he has become like a member of their family, and every day they wait for a new story about him. There are no more moral authorities in our lives. But we still want them to be. In this vague zone of “you can’t, but you want to,” the wise philosopher Yakov lives. Stories about him may remind the reader of Hasidic or Zen parables, and even miniatures of Kharms.
