In the first post-war days, a group of Soviet soldiers stops in one of the German villages. These few days will be decisive in the fate of the wealthy German peasant Raschke. He, an accomplice in the death of many prisoners from the concentration camp, will have to comprehend his past, being in fear and hope of avoiding his own death... This is the plot of the short story “It was the month of May” (the film of the same name was shot in 1970 by director Marlen Khutsiev, starring: Alexander Arzhilovsky, Pyotr Todorovsky, Sergei Shakurov) famous Soviet prose writer, remarkable front-line writer Grigory Yakovlevich Baklanov. His book also includes the stories "Karpukhin", "One of Our Own" and a number of stories from different years.
