This book is a historical novel in which, on a real biographical basis, an attempt is made to describe the life of Grigory Karpovich Kotoshikhin, a clerk at the Ambassadorial Prikaz during the times of Tsar Alekseevich Mikhailovich the Quiet, who “stole” and fled to Sweden, where he met his end. Kotoshikhin left behind a description of Russia in the 17th century, thanks to which historical science was replenished with interesting details about this time.
