The tradesman Jourdain tries to imitate the noble class in everything. Because of this, Jourdain denies Cleonte the hand of his daughter Lucille. Then Cleonte's servant comes up with a trick: under the guise of a Turkish nobleman, he initiates Mr. Jourdain into an imaginary Turkish noble rank and arranges the marriage of his daughter Lucille with the son of the Turkish Sultan, who is actually Cleonte in disguise.
