The fundamental work of the Russian historian O. R. Airapetov on the participation of the Russian Empire in the First World War is an attempt to combine an analysis of the foreign, military, domestic and economic policies of the Russian Empire in 1914–1917 (before the February Revolution of 1917) taking into account the pre-war period, the features of which predetermined the development and forms of foreign and domestic political conflicts in the country that perished in 1917. The fourth and final volume, “1917. Collapse,” tells the story of the relationship between military and revolutionary events in Russia at the beginning of the 20th century, analyzes the results of the overthrow of the monarchy and the coming to Bolshevik authorities, which influenced the outcome and consequences of the war.
