Guibert shows us strange objects - a vibrating chair, a vacuum machine, an eyelash curler, an ethereal mask, an orthopedic collar - and leads us into an exciting world: we find ourselves in Turkish baths, zoological galleries, a menagerie, a taxidermist's office, discovering visions and the fears of the writer and photographer. The book, conceived and written in the late 70s, was published shortly before the writer's death. "Vice" cannot be classified into any genre. This is not a novel, not a photo album. The title of the book foreshadows a scandal, but the vice itself is not explicitly mentioned; the reader is referred to his own vices. Where is what was promised? Perhaps the vice is in the unusual use of familiar things or in a new interpretation of an ordinary word. In sensory tension and divergence of the components of reality, in experimental work showing how fantasies are born from everyday life, in documented fiction. Vice is the subject of a search, an investigation conducted by completely different methods. The long-unpublished “Vice” became the focus of the imaginary, Guibert’s “reliquary”, a literary workshop, a collection of possible stories, a combination of codes from other works about the obsession with death and the connections between Eros and Thanatos, living and inanimate, pleasure and pain, male and female.
