There is an event in the Ural district town of Uzle: after a long absence, a young millionaire and heir to the Shatrovsky factories, Sergei Aleksandrovich Privalov, returns. His arrival causes a noticeable commotion. A local matchmaker decides to make some money on Sergei by marrying him to the daughter of Privalov’s father’s friend, Nadezhda Bakhareva. And the heir’s guardians are planning a cunning intrigue, the goal of which is to maintain and increase their influence on Sergei and continue to make money from his property. But young Privalov has completely different plans for his inheritance. Dmitry Narkisovich Mamin-Sibiryak (1852-1912) was compared by his contemporaries to the greatest French writer Emile Zola. The novel “Privalov's Millions” (1883) is the writer’s first major work, which brought him genuine recognition and fame.
