The 15th edition of the book “Medicines” has once again been thoroughly revised and supplemented with a significant number of new drugs, new information about the mechanisms of their action and rational use in practical medicine. The content of the book, changing with each issue, allows us to largely follow the progress in the creation of drugs over the past 50-plus years. The first edition included data on 555 main (at that time) drugs (without finished dosage forms); more than 150 of them are outdated and no longer used. This publication contains information on more than 2000 major drugs. In the first editions there was (and could not be) data on a number of new pharmacological (pharmacotherapeutic) groups. Only over time, information began to appear about neuroleptics, antidepressants, tranquilizers and other groups of psychotropic drugs, about β-blockers and β-adrenostimulants, calcium ion antagonists, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, histamine H2 receptor blockers, immunomodulators, cephalosporins and other new ones. highly active antibiotics, new synthetic chemotherapeutic agents, new drugs for the treatment of oncological diseases, etc. The book “Medicines” includes data on a number of new groups of drugs (stimulants of central imidazoline receptors, angiotensin AT1 receptor blockers, antiplatelet agents - platelet receptor blockers, leukstrien inhibitors), about recent achievements in the creation of specific agents that inhibit HIV replication, etc. Many drugs from the listed and other new pharmacological (and chemotherapeutic) groups have found application in various fields of medicine.
