Jorge Luis Borges is one of the most famous writers of the twentieth century, who largely determined the shape of modern literature. Umberto Eco, in his essay on the influence of Borges, formulates the basic principle of the works of the great Argentinean: “Books talk to each other.” Borges himself wrote: “Some are proud of every book they write, I am proud of every book I read.” In numerous interviews, Borges called himself not so much a writer as an attentive, grateful reader. It is not surprising that most of his literary heritage consists of articles, notes, reviews and reflections on literature. These are precisely the two collections of Borges included in this volume: “Atlas” and “Personal Library.” “Atlas” is a kind of travel diary, a collection of elegant miniatures born in the imagination of a blind wanderer. "Personal Library" consists of Borges' prefaces to his favorite books. Each page of these collections reflects the unique style of the author, where prose balances on the edge of poetry, and the Universe revolves around the most precious object - the Book. Some of the texts are published in Russian for the first time.
