The presented book is a development of the theme of the Japanese sword following the “History of the Japanese Sword*, published in 2001, and is intended to be a definitive guide. This work contains similar information about the blades and frames of traditional Japanese swords and daggers. The book contains 1600 special terms and 2200 hieroglyphs. 260 coats of arms. 50 graphic illustrations, 91 black and white and 55 color photographs, as well as tables, appendices and an index to facilitate the examination of blades. The book contains numerous fragments from Japanese medieval and modern books. The practice of illustrating the material with exhibits from Russian museums that have never been published before, begun in the previous book, is continued in this work. These are exhibits from the collections of the Military Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineering Troops and Signal Corps (VIMAIViVS), the State Historical Museum (GIM), the L.V. Suvorov Museum, and also items from private collections. The book is intended for military historians, museum workers, collectors and a wide range of readers interested in the history of weapons. Currently, the author is preparing for publication another work that develops the topic he started - “Making a Japanese sword: raw materials, forging, hardening, polishing” and the album “Japanese weapons from Russian public and private collections.”
