Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez, 1599–1660) is the greatest Spanish realist artist who laid the foundations of psychological portraiture in European art. From 1623 - court painter of King Philip IV. Velazquez's painting is distinguished by the courage of realistic observations, the ability to penetrate into the character of the model, a heightened sense of harmony, subtlety and richness of color.

The second part of the album presents reproductions of 35 works by Velazquez from 1630–1635.
