This book is “a collection of motley chapters... the mind of cold observations and the heart of sorrowful notes.” Its author L. B. Chernoy, publicist, translator from German works of G. Böll, E. M. Remarque, F. Kafka and other famous writers, turned 100 years old in 2017. In 2015, L. B. Chernaya published a book of memoirs, “Slanting Rain,” about time and herself in the New Literary Review. The main theme of the new book is “pictures of the past” in the light of the present: how yesterday gave birth to today. It is not for nothing that L. B. Chernaya began her career as a political journalist and devoted 40 years of her life to the history of German fascism, writing many articles on this topic and, together with her husband D. E. Melamid, a book about Hitler “Criminal Number 1.” You can agree or disagree with the author’s interpretation of the 1990s and what is happening now, but a keen mind, observation, polemical temperament and keen interest in events and people, as well as a wonderful sense of humor make the story extremely entertaining.
