The story consists of two parts, connected by mystical events that occurred in the life of the main character. In the first part, he unexpectedly inherits from his grandfather the amazing ability to transform into a wolf. The grandfather informs his grandson about this gift on his 90th birthday, but does not have time to convey to him the ritual of cleansing from this gift and dies. The main character becomes a werewolf against his will. In the second part of the book, in search of an ancient rite of purification, he leaves for the Altai Mountains and settles in the house of a sorcerer who raised his grandfather many years ago. During one of his transformations into a wolf, he finds a wounded white wolf in the forest, who was the leader of the pack. The hero of the story nurses her back, saving her life. The she-wolf, in gratitude for saving him, becomes his friend and even more than a friend. As a result, the she-wolf helps him find this ritual and parts with it, keeping forever in her heart more than the memory of this person. The plot of the story keeps the reader in suspense until the last lines of the book.
