This book can rightfully be called a discovery - a discovery for the Russian reader of the great poet Stefan George, the founder of German symbolism, a contemporary of A. Blok, S. Mallarmé, O. Wilde, W.B. Yeats, etc. For almost a hundred years, the name of Stefan George was banned in our country, since his poetry did not in any way correspond to the canons of so-called “progressive literature”: esthete, individualist (rejected the generally accepted and invented “personal” punctuation for himself), decadent, immoralist, reactionary...With the rehabilitation of Stefan George, whose work embodied an entire literary school, the gaping crack in the Russian history of German literature of the late 19th and early 20th centuries finally disappears. In this edition, translations by Vladimir Letuchy are published in their entirety in Russian for the first time three central books by S. George: “The Year of the Soul” (“Das Jahr der Seele”), “Carpet of Life and Songs about Dreams and Death with a Prelude” (“Der Teppich des Lebens und die Lieder von Traum und Tod mit einem Vorspiel”) and "The Seventh Ring" ("Der siebente Ring"). The appendix contains translations from various books of the poet, made by Vyach. Ivanov, V. Bryusov, A. Bisk, S. Radlov, A. Steinberg.
