The work analyzes the situation in which the Russian army found itself in February-October 1917, the emergence of officer activity in the White movement; forms and methods of primary unification of officers; ways and means for officers to join the Volunteer Army and its subsequent replenishment have been identified; the social composition of volunteer officers and its changes during the Civil War was studied; the specifics of the worldview and the relationship with the social environment have been studied; the degree of cohesion of the officer corps of the Volunteer Army and the level of its sociocultural unity were assessed. For the first time, a unified study of the formation and evolution of volunteer officers in the South of Russia has been undertaken in the socio-ideological and socio-psychological aspects. The characteristics of the officers of the Volunteer Army are made in the broadest sense, including belonging to the old army structure and position in it, ranks and features of rank production, official promotions and advantages, level of losses, degree of voluntariness, class origin and national-religious composition. Extensive personal and biographical data of 7209 officers was collected and systematized. The monograph is addressed to both researchers, teachers, students, and the general reader. The materials of the monograph are included in the framework of the author’s special courses “The White Movement in Russia”, “Russia in the 20th Century”, which allows it to be used as a teaching aid.
