Ivan Nikolaevich Kramskoy (1837–1887) is one of the most famous Russian artists. Spectators have long and forever fallen in love with his paintings - “Christ in the Desert”, “Inconsolable Grief”, “Unknown”, portraits of Russian writers, artists, scientists he painted. The image of many outstanding people of our fatherland remained in the memory of posterity thanks to the fact that it was captured by Kramskoy’s brush. Among the best portraits he created is the first pictorial image of Leo Tolstoy, the portrait-painting “Nekrasov during the period of the Last Songs.” Kramskoy was not only a remarkable artist, but also a prominent public figure, one of the founders and leaders of the Association of Itinerants.
