The name of Pavel Ulitin (1918–1986), almost legendary for some, was not widely known during the author’s lifetime, and the occasional publication of his texts in foreign periodicals did not change the overall picture. Only in the 90s did Russian magazines begin to publish Ulitin, and in 2002 “Conversation about Fish” was published - the writer’s first work, published in full and as a separate book. “Makarov Scratching His Head” continues the tradition of authentic publication of Ulitin’s texts, preserving it in printed form the main properties of the manuscript and without violating the “shuttle” connection between the printed word, handwritten sign and oral speech, which we have the right to consider the basis of Ulitin’s writing technique - experimental, mysterious and completely original.
