The new edition is a continuation of Wolfhall, one of the most famous British novels of the new century, “the best Booker winner for many years” (Scotsman). Moreover, the second book also received the Booker - an unprecedented case in the history of the award. And in March 2020, the final novel of the trilogy, “The Mirror and the Light,” was finally released. Mantel “recreated the most important period of modern English history: the greatest English prose writer of our time revives the most famous episodes from England’s past,” said the chairman of the Booker jury, Sir Peter Stothard. He is echoed by Margaret Atwood, also a two-time Booker winner: Mantel “picks up where Wolfhall left off... her literary ingenuity has not failed her; everything is just as accurate and precise in every word.” So, Henry VIII Tudor begins to be burdened by Anne Boleyn (the second of his, as you know, six wives), for the sake of marriage with whom he carried out a religious reformation, making England independent of the Pope. However, Anna never brought the king the long-awaited heir to the throne - and now Henry begins to glance at one of Anna’s ladies-in-waiting, Jane Seymour. But getting rid of Anne and the powerful Boleyn clan is not so easy - and in this the king will again be helped by Secretary of State Thomas Cromwell, a virtuoso master of behind-the-scenes intrigue. It would seem that it is well known how this story will end, but Mantel’s novel is more fascinating to read than any detective story... In 2015, the BBC television channel filmed both books, starring Mark Rylance (“The Other Boleyn Girl,” “Bridge of Spies” ", "Dunkirk"), Damian Lewis ("Romeo and Juliet", "Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood"), Claire Foy ("Postage", "The Crown", "Man on the Moon"). The series, known in Russian as “Wolf Hall,” was nominated for a Golden Globe in three categories (winning in one), a BAFTA in eight (winning in three), and an Emmy in eight.Previously the novel was published under the title Bring in the Bodies.
