The long life of Professor Ch.N. Dodda (1884 - 1973) was crowned with two events. In 1970, the publication of a new translation of the Bible and the New Testament into modern English was completed. Dodd has led this collective and ecumenical work as its first scientific editor since 1949. Also in 1970, Dodd's other book was published, the modest popular study you now hold in your hands, The Founder of Christianity. Each of these works in its own way reflects Dodd's devotion to his beliefs. Almost all of his published works (and Dodd’s bibliography totals no less than 27 pages) are devoted to the study of individual books of the Holy Scriptures or the Bible as a whole. The most famous of these are two seminal studies of the Gospel of John (1953 and 1963). “There is nothing here from hearsay,” wrote one famous reviewer in 1963, “every thought is illuminated in a new way.” His last work, “The Founder of Christianity,” created for the general public, in which he summarized his life’s work, sounds just as fresh. above the Gospel text.
