The sniper movement in the Red Army began in the most desperate days of the war, in the fall of 1941, on the Leningrad Front. In 1943, the first female sniper platoons appeared in the active army. Many “vengeful angels” had dozens of killed enemies to their credit. Not all of these girls lived to see the end of the war. Those who were lucky returned, still very young, to the life of ordinary Soviet women. And yet, the main event of their lives was the Great Patriotic War. The author of the book, Lyubov Vinogradova, worked in the archives, studied the memoirs of eyewitnesses, met with participants in the events and members of their families. The result of this painstaking work was a unique historical and documentary research on the contribution of female snipers to the victory in the Great Patriotic War.
