On the steep bank of the Khatanga River, which flows into the Laptev Sea, there is a monument - a red sea buoy five meters high. On the cone are the words: “In memory of the first hydrographs - the discoverers of the Taimyr Peninsula.” The names are familiar, unfamiliar, completely unfamiliar. To all captains passing ships, the navigation notice prescribes: “When passing abeam, seafarers are called upon to salute with a sound signal for a quarter of a minute, announcing to the crew over the ship’s broadcast in whose honor the salute is being given.” Low beeps of ships float over the tundra, over the river, over the sea... A historical story about a trip to in the first half of the 18th century, a detachment led by Lieutenant Pronchishchev to the Taimyr Peninsula. His research became a bright page in the history of the great northern expedition.
