The Valois were a side branch of the French Capeguing dynasty and used their coat of arms - stylized lily flowers. The founder of the family, Charles, Count of Valois (1270–1325), was the youngest son of Philip III the Bold and brother of Philip IV the Handsome. Three branches of this family successively dominated France in 1328-1589. (Valois, Orleans and Angoulême branches). Its representatives occupied the thrones of Naples and Poland.
