The issue opens with a short novel by the Italian writer, theater critic and music critic Luigi Lunari (1934) “Maestro and Others” translated by Valery Nikolaev. The chief director of the famous Milan theater, master and darling of fame, learns that the technical staff of his theater is staging in their spare time the same play that once won him success. Wounded pride, jealousy, etc. they immediately make themselves known. Some similarity with Bulgakov’s “Theatrical Novel” is apparently explained by the similarity of the behind-the-scenes atmosphere at all latitudes. Foreign Literature, 2016 No. 12
