The notes of Jacob Ulfeldt, the Danish ambassador to Ivan IV the Terrible, contain information about the first post-oprichnik years, the economic situation of Russia, Russian-Swedish and Russian-Polish military actions at the final stage of the Livonian War, the internal situation of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, including the peasantry uprising in the north of the country. This edition reproduces the Latin text of the Travels, its translation into Danish in 1678 and the Russian translation by L. N. Godovikova, accompanied by historical and biographical, literary, art and archaeological comments. The Appendix contains fragments of an anonymous essay about this journey from the Danish Royal Archives, documents from the Russian State Archive of Ancient Acts on Russian-Danish relations of the 60s of the 16th - early 17th centuries. The publication is equipped with numerous illustrations that allow us to imagine some of the realities described by J. Ulfeldt. It is intended for historians and historians of art, material culture and life in Russia, historians of Eastern and Northern Europe of various specialties, and all readers interested in the past of Russia and its international relations.
