This study is devoted to one of the most striking monuments of Carolingian historiography, completely translated into Russian for the first time. Tegan's work, written in the second half of the 30s of the 9th century, tells the story of dynamic events in the history of the Frankish Carolingian empire on the eve of its collapse. The author focuses on the reign of Louis the Pious, during which an attempt was made to translate Augustine's religious and political idea of the City of God into real life. The publication is of interest to historians, philologists, cultural experts, political scientists, as well as to anyone interested in the history and culture of the Western European Middle Ages.
