1944, Budapest. On an autumn evening in a small tavern, four old friends - a watchmaker, a bookseller, a carpenter and the owner of the establishment - spend time drinking a decanter of homemade wine and talking about everyday trifles. Outside the walls of the tavern there is a curfew and the rampant Nilashist terror, inside there is an island of stability and calm. Friends console themselves with the fact that, as small people, they still cannot influence anything. But they have nothing to reproach themselves with, their conscience is clear... In just a day, all four will face the most difficult choice possible - when it will be possible to preserve human dignity only at the cost of life.
