In Soviet historiography, it was generally accepted that the Allies won their “notorious” Battle of the Atlantic on June 22, 1941, when “almost all the resources of the Germans were thrown onto the Eastern Front.” Few people today know that this is, to put it mildly, not true. Navy enthusiasts pay more attention to battles involving formidable battleships and cruisers, huge aircraft carriers and swift destroyers than to the tedious escort of Atlantic convoys accompanied by unrepresentative sloops and corvettes. But each successful convoy brought the Allied victory closer much faster than, for example, the victory at Cape Matapan. Therefore, I consider this book very useful about one of these convoy battles, which became one of the turning points in the campaign on the Atlantic routes, and which came to the Allies at just the right time after the crisis of the spring of 1943, when the final victory was still far away.
