At the armored school they were told that “the Red Army is the strongest of all,” and our combat vehicles have no equal. They believed that “if there is war tomorrow, if the enemy attacks,” the USSR will defeat the aggressor with “little blood and a mighty blow.” But in the summer of 1941, everything went completely differently than in victory marches and propaganda films. Their three-turreted T-28 was knocked out in the first battle. The counterattack of the 15th mechanized corps failed, there was confusion at the headquarters, control of the troops was lost, the units were brought into battle separately and were defeated one by one, suffering huge losses. Will the “crew of the combat vehicle” be able to recapture the captured tank from the enemy and break out of the “cauldron”? What is a lone T-28 capable of when it sets out on a “furious campaign” against the German rear? And is there a chance for our tankers to return alive from this desperate raid?
