Catherine Pancol was born in Morocco, grew up in France, and lived in the USA for a long time. Having defended her diploma in modern literature, she initially taught French and Latin, but quickly changed her profession and took up journalism. She wrote for Cosmopolitan and Paris-Match, and still collaborates with the latter. In 1979, following the advice of a publisher, she released her debut novel (“I Was First”), which brought her worldwide fame. Since then, she has written twelve novels, most of which have become bestsellers, making her one of the most widely read French writers in the world.* * *Jackie Bouvier Kennedy-Onassis needs no special introduction - her image is so attractive, and her fate is so similar to a fairy tale, that reality recedes, safely hidden by a blinding brilliance. In her novel, Catherine Pancol, relying on factual material drawn from numerous memoirs, biographies, interviews and testimonies of contemporaries, recreates the psychological portrait and life story of a woman who became a symbol of an entire era.
