Mithridates VI Eupator - the last great king in Hellenistic Asia Minor. He fought with Rome for decades, at various times becoming a formidable opponent for Sulla, Lucullus and Gnaeus Pompey, but it was not this period of Mithridates’ life that inspired the famous writer Vitaly Gladky. The reader is offered the background to the epoch-making wars with Rome, and the narrative begins in 121 BC. Mithridates is not yet a commander or even a king, but only the heir to the throne of the Pontic kingdom. While still a teenager, Mithridates will have to endure the unexpected death of his father, the betrayal of his mother and fight not even for the throne, but for the right to walk on this earth, not to become a shadow in Hades.
