England, 1887. Having buried both aunts, young researcher Veronica Speedwell plans to devote her life to science and travel. However, upon returning from the sad ceremony, she discovers a burglar in her home, who is also trying to kidnap her! And only the timely intervention of the mysterious German baron saves the girl from her sad fate. Her savior is sure that Veronica is in danger and offers to go with him to London, promising to reveal all her cards there. But as soon as they arrive, the baron leaves the girl in the workshop of his friend Stoker and disappears.
