This book publishes for the first time some of the oral teachings of the modern order - the initiated order founded by Aleister Crowley and J. S. Jones in 1906 - 1907. J. Daniel Gunter writes with confidence, clarity, and compelling candor on such a complex and profound topic as the development of Thelema after receiving the Holy Books recorded by Aleister Crowley. Gunter's book is supplied with many illustrations that explain his reasoning. This is one of those rare books that at times rises to the level of genuine revelation. However, Gunter invariably adheres to a strictly scientific approach, referring in particular to modern data from Egyptology and to the works of K.G. Jung and Erich Neumann. His book is written from the perspective of a qualified teacher and is understandable for beginning students, but at the same time it reveals quite a lot of new things even for experienced practitioners. Gunther's work is a valuable and welcome addition to a course on post-Crawleyan literature on Thelema. It deserves its rightful place in the teaching programs of both Thelemic orders, and is recommended to all independent Thelemites for careful study. The coming of the Aeon of Horus and the receipt of the "Book of the Law" in 1904 marked the beginning of dramatic changes in the evolution of mankind. With the end of each Aeon, the consciousness of people is transformed beyond recognition. In the profane world, dynamic transformations of this kind are called “paradigm shifts.” In 1904, a paradigm shift occurred on a universal scale; and, according to the conviction of those who accept the Law of Thelema, behind these changes were the Intelligences that govern our planet and its entire evolution. The events of 1904 heralded the end of the era of the Dying God and a change in the central formula of Initiation, which had hitherto been the IAO formula. The term “Eon” in the symbolism of Thelema refers to large periods of time, the duration of which, according to tradition, is about 2000 years and which correlate with certain evolutionary milestones in the history of mankind. The first of these periods, about which we have at least some evidence, is called the Aeon of Isis. That was the time of the Matriarchs - the great Mother Goddesses, of which Isis can truly be considered an exemplary representative. The period that replaced it, for the sake of convenience, is called the Aeon of Osiris; this is the era of the Father Gods, which include Osiris, Jehovah, Jesus and many others.
