This book contains three fundamental works by Mongolian historians-lamas of the 17th, 19th and 20th centuries. Erdenipel's essay "The Ultimate Cause of Religions in Mongolia", written in the 30s. XX century, published for the first time, and the Mongolian original text has not yet been discovered. Jambadorji's work "The Crystal Mirror", dating back to the first half of the 19th century, has never been translated into any European language. Finally, one of the earliest chronicles - “The Golden Legend” (XVII century) by an anonymous author was published only in an approximate translation into Russian by G. Gomboev in 1858. The long-overdue publication in Russian of these works is important not only for knowledge of the history of Mongolia and Eurasia as a whole, but also for a correct comparison of the Mongols’ attitude towards their past with how this past is perceived from the outside, as well as for comparing the logic of the development of historical thought of nomadic and sedentary peoples.
