The book brought to your attention is a kind of result of an unprecedented project carried out by Professor Russell for twenty years, the main task of which, as the professor himself admitted, was to “clarify the problem of the existence of evil.” In his previous books on the Devil, the famous Protestant philosopher tried to achieve some understanding of this problem through the study of the history of ideas about the Devil as one of the most powerful symbols of evil. The book - "Prince of Darkness" - presents a general outline of the history of these ideas, set out in one volume. The author sets himself the task of presenting in a general work the history of the Devil in the Western world from the very beginning to the present day, focusing not only and not so much on the academic, but on the widest public. Based mainly on the same material that was used in previous four books, he strives to avoid unnecessary detail and huge notes, focusing the reader's attention "on the most important issues of the story and showing its deepest undercurrents."
