The famous Norwegian Herbjörg Wassma received many literary awards in different countries for her novels, translated into all European languages: the Nordic Council Prize (which is called the “Scandinavian Nobel”), the French Jean Monnet Prize, and the Danish one as the most read foreign author. Her best-selling book “The Book of Dina” was made into a film with Gerard Depardieu, which won prizes at the Montreal Film Festival (2002) in the categories “Best Film” and “Best Actress” (Marie Bonnevie). Having dared to plunge into the life of the “bottom”, Wassmu wrote, probably, the toughest of all existing books about the slave trade of the 21st century - “A Glass of Milk, Please.” (2006). Her heroine is a Russian girl with the unusual name Dorte. Finding herself and her family in Lithuania, fifteen-year-old Dorte, after unsuccessful attempts to get out of poverty, decides to go abroad secretly from her family, where she is promised a job as a waitress. However, she falls into the hands of cynical pimps who make a living by exporting prostitutes from Eastern Europe.
