Three Sad Tigers (1967) is one of the best novels of the so-called “Latin American boom”, rightfully standing among such works as Hopscotch by Julio Cortazar and One Hundred Years of Solitude by Garcia Marquez. This is a one-of-a-kind experiment - an experience that has never before been seen in Spanish-language literature. The saga of the nocturnal adventures of three friends in the nighttime pre-revolutionary Havana of 1958 is headlined by a fragment of absurd patter, and the real hero of this epic journey is a brilliant poet who wants to be “language itself.” In 1965, Cabrera Infante, the country's largest film expert, the head of the loudest cultural magazine of the first stage of the Cuban revolution, “Lunes de revolution”, left Cuba forever and forever remained a fierce opponent of the socialist regime. First, ideological obstacles, and later the impact of historical inertia, prevented “Three Sad Tigers” from appearing in Russian earlier.
