Salvador Dali met his Russian muse with the strange name Gala in the summer of 1929, when he was 25 and she was 35 years old and she was the wife of the French poet Paul Eluard. The artist and the Muse saw each other and after the first meeting they did not part for 53 years: they were separated only by death. “She began to view me as a half-mad genius,” Dali admitted. “She believed that I could become the embodiment of her own myths.” The fatal "vamp" Gala, whose name means "holiday" in French, became the main model for the painter, the stimulus for his "happenings" - erotic spectacles with a flavor of scandal. She made Salvador Dali a genius, and he left her image in hundreds of paintings. Author Sofia Benois states: “The love of Salvador Dali and his Russian beloved is fraught with many oddities, in which canvases, riddles, hallucinations, games and phobias are inscribed, and from this history their relationship only becomes more attractive...” The book was also published under the title “Gala. How to make a genius out of Salvador Dali.”
