Southern Postal and Night Flight are the first two novels published by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. When they appeared - the first in July 1929 with a foreword by Andre Wöckler, the second in July 1931 (and not in October 1931, as was often written about it) with a foreword by Andre Gide - the young writer was still working at the Aeropostal company. History the creation of these two novels is visible thanks to the letters that the author, being away from his friends and loved ones, sent from Paris, Toulouse, then from Dakar, Kai-Jubi, Buenos Aires. Letters to her mother and her cousin Yvonne de Lestrange - the Duchesse de Trevize, was friends with Andre Gide and Marc Allegret, who called her Apple - are replete with evidence of the writer's emerging vocation.
